Chris co-founded UPP in 2017 and serves as its President & CEO. On a daily basis, he shapes the company’s direction, defines new technology and service offerings, and identifies market opportunities. Overseeing operations, engineering, and analysis, Chris ensures everything runs smoothly from the top down.

With a background in electronics engineering and deep roots in the pipeline industry, Chris grew up with a father who spent his career constructing pipelines across Western Canada. After graduating with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Chris followed in his father’s footsteps by starting as a field technician running inline inspection tools. Quickly rising through the ranks, Chris was promoted from field technician and into management and eventually company ownership.

Chris is proud of the team he has built at UPP and is passionate about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the small diameter inline inspection business. He’s especially eager to apply these unique capabilities to new industries beyond oil and gas and looks forward to expanding into different markets.

Cameron is UPP’s Vice President of Business Development, where he and his team are the initial points of contact for all UPP clients. Cameron is very process-oriented and manages a highly tuned sales machine that is continually refined to enhance the customer experience.

Cameron began his career as a field technician in the inline inspection industry in 2013 after serving as an Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. His naval experience taught him to remain calm under pressure, think quickly, and solve problems–skills that are applicable to his work today in inline inspection. He also holds a degree in Law and Society from the University of Calgary.

Cameron is a man of his word and a people person at heart. He cares deeply about building strong relationships and is committed to contributing to UPP’s growth while helping maintain its welcoming, small-company feel.

James is the Director of Data Analysis at UPP. With over 15 years of expertise in interpreting MFL, caliper, and IMU data, he remains hands-on with every project, ensuring accuracy and refining processes and software.

As a registered Professional Engineer with a Geomatics Engineering degree from the University of Calgary, James reviews analysis projects, develops training programs, and mentors the analysis team. Working with industry leaders is highly rewarding.

James finds it especially satisfying when customers confirm UPP’s recommendations are spot-on. There’s nothing quite like hearing that a customer dug into the ground and found exactly what UPP isolated, where they isolated it. Even after years in the industry, he still enjoys being surprised by what the data can reveal.

Mike is the Business Development Manager at UPP. He enjoys meeting new customers, understanding their challenges, and identifying how UPP can best support them. When things don’t go as planned (hey, that’s life), Mike considers it an opportunity to improve the process for next time.

A Professional Engineer with a B.Sc. in Materials Engineering from the University of Alberta, Mike spent over a decade “on the other side of the fence” managing pipeline integrity for upstream and midstream companies before joining UPP.

Mike is passionate about introducing people to UPP’s value: industry-leading technology at a better price with superior customer service – and he’s most excited about helping customers find the innovative solutions they need, which UPP proudly delivers.

As the Lead Software Developer, Ron oversees the development and maintenance of digital applications, including the creation of advanced algorithms for UPP’s MFL tools.

With a degree in Electrical Engineering, Ron has been in the pipeline inspection industry since 1997. At UPP, he has led the charge advancing the accuracy for small diameter tools that were previously not thought possible.

Ron says the best part of his job is working with people who are committed to doing things right! He also loves continually improving tool accuracy and is super passionate about making software that helps his team work more effectively.

Looking ahead, Ron is excited to push what’s possible in smart pig technology and is excited to make even more advancements in industry safety.

As Director of Technology, Grant brings over 25 years of expertise to the industry. He ensures safety compliance and standards, validates operational performance, and drives improvement. He also has a deep respect for the vital role companies like UPP play in the safe operations of pipelines.

With a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia, Grant started working in basic R&D and later managed software and R&D teams across the globe. He understands magnetic modelling, FEA analysis, data analysis, software development, and advancing technologies through different TRL levels to commercial production.

Grant appreciates how UPP has brought together many veterans of the industry into a young company, all driven by a common goal, a unified vision, and the ability to pivot quickly. He’s excited to be a part of UPP’s expansion in terms of its available tools, technology, and people, and he can’t wait to see how UPP evolves in the next five years!

As the Data Analysis Manager, Dan ensures that reports are accurate and target deadlines are met. He also manages and trains team members and helps set business goals based on solid data.

With a professional background in Geomatics and GIS, Dan brings extensive field experience to his role. For nearly a decade, he has honed his skills in data analysis, applying expertise across Canada and the USA.

For Dan, the most rewarding parts of his job have got to be delivering exceptional work to clients while positively impacting career and personal growth within his team. He is excited about UPP’s future as it develops technologies that provide industry-leading service across the continent.
