Electronics Technician
Headquartered in Calgary, AB, Canada; United Pacific is an Inline inspection company catering to the operators of Oil and Gas pipelines around the world.
The Electronics Technician will be a key member of the United Pacific team, as this role will be responsible for carrying out preparation, development, and maintenance of the Wireline and ILI tools electronics and subsystems, assist in new builds and testing, in-house manufacturing of sensors, System electronics assemblies and subsequent systems and equipment under the tutelage of the ILI Systems Reliability / Subject Matter Expert and the direction of the Shop Manager.
Due to recent growth United Pacific is now accepting applications for the position of Electronics Technician.
Essential Functions
- A primary function is in-house manufacturing of proprietary electronics assemblies and subsequent systems and equipment.
- Perform test procedures for all sensor heads and electronics stacks during construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnosis and repair of electronic circuitry including board level components.
- Placement of board level components.
- SMD and high reliability intricate soldering.
- Programming new firmware releases on all types of electronic boards.
- Work with in the Electronics and Reliability teams to develop and perform test and validation procedures for evaluating PCB / PCBA / Firmware changes prior to release to production.
- Maintain documentation of all tests, changes, and upgrades to tools and assemblies as part of the UPP change management process.
- Contribute towards Root Cause Analysis [RCA] efforts as required.
- Assist electronics engineer and/or electronic consultants in developing updated sets of electronics.
- Continue to develop knowledge of UPP’s electronics system to become a Subject Matter Expert that other company employees can rely on for troubleshooting help and guidance.
- Assist in the inventory management of electronics parts in conjunction with department lead.
- Any other tasks as assigned by the Shop Manager aligned with job role.
Education
- Diploma/Associates or Trade Certificate Preferred in one of the following disciplines.
- Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Automotive Service Technician
- Electronic Engineering Technology
- Petroleum Engineering Technology
Experience
- 1 – 3 years of experience in mechanical assembly.
- High Mechanical Aptitude.
- Ability to understand engineering drawings/ Bills of Material (BOM) /schematic diagrams.
- Ability to operate hand/power tools.
- A technical or electromechanical background.
- Previous experience with Inline Inspection Tools/Downhole Tools in an asset.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in the Oil and Gas and or related industry.
Skillset
- Strong Computer Skills.
- Ability to work with proprietary software.
- Ability to utilize Office and work in a Windows environment.
- Strong proficiency in Soldering any tasks from wire harnesses to surface mount components
- Ability to complete tasks fully in a timely and quality manner.
- Ability to maintain poise, quality of work and efficiency during busy times.
- Ability to evaluate and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to maintain concentration over long periods of time.
- Self-regulated with a strong sense of pride in one’s work.
- Strong social skills for communicating with co-workers.
- Professional personal presentation.
